The self-portraits «time travel» of Peter Gartmann were created in analog form in 1984. They show unreal formations. The closeness and expanse have an effect on the space. Searching circles lead the self-portraits into novel spaces where they meet in a new way – familiar and yet so mysterious.
The images‘ landscape of forms shows reality and mystery. Presence and dissolution. Fragile as well as ambiguous. Space, light and movement are the elements here.
To conceal, disclose, and break open are Peter Gartmann’s motifs. His pictures show the search for protection and yet infinity in their own floating world. It is their ever-recurring journey back to himself.
