Sie war schon da, die Form des Fisches – tausendfach. Ihr Umriss erinnert an zwei gegeneinander gelehnte Bogen. Immer wieder musste ich sie zeichnen: als Gebärde in den Raum, mit dem Stift auf Papier, mit dem Fuss in den Sand. Faszinierend ist die Bewegung im Ziehen der Linien, ob kurz und steil, oder flach und weit. Sie aber drängten aus dem Zweidimensionalen hinaus ins Dreidimensionale. Ausdauer war darauf gefragt, und nicht mehr so beschwingt war die Bewegung in der Arbeit. Einfach ist ihre Gestalt geworden, der gewölbten Linie folgend: still und schwer im Stein, klingend und leicht im Holz.

With the longing for rebirth and immortality rooted deeply in the human soul, for many cultures and religions, the tree has not surprisingly played a major role as an archetypical symbol of life. Especially the oak.
